Passengers and airport users at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) should brace for temporary disruptions as the Rivers State Government embarks on a major infrastructure upgrade to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience.
The upgrade includes the expansion of access roads leading to the airport, a project aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring smoother vehicular movement for travelers and airport users. Additionally, the internal roads in front of the domestic terminal, currently in poor condition, are undergoing rehabilitation to improve traffic flow and enhance passenger safety.
Significant construction is also underway near the Toll Gate as part of the access road expansion project. This initiative is designed to improve airport accessibility and reduce bottlenecks for vehicles entering and exiting the facility.
To further enhance passenger convenience, a dedicated drop-off zone is being constructed to streamline drop-offs, while the road in front of the terminal building is set for an upgrade to improve both aesthetics and functionality. The remodeling of the day and overnight car parks is also nearing completion, promising better organization and security for airport users.
While these critical enhancements may cause temporary inconveniences, the Rivers State Government has assured travelers that the project will be completed within a short timeframe to minimise disruption.
