Reacting to the defection by Delta State Governor and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), members of the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) said the party remains undaunted by the defections.
A member of the PDP NEC, Diran Odeyemi, told Daily Sun, that the defection was a seasonal wind that would blow away soon. He stated that the exit of the party members would not have any negative effect on the PDP in the 2027 general election.
He said: “It is a season. It will soon go away. It is seasonal. It will soon be up. Don’t worry. It is not going to have any effect on PDP in 2027 polls. At least, we are not going into election tomorrow.”
The NEC, while responding on the likelihood of more PDP governors defecting to the APC in the coming days, said: “Let’s wait and see.”
Similarly, another NEC member, Timothy Osadalor, told Daily Sun that even with the defection, the PDP remains a strong platform.
Osadolor, who is also the deputy national youth leader of the party accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of allegedly weaponising state institutions to hound prominent opposition figure in the country.
Nonetheless, he stated that the aggregation of opposition politicians to the APC by Tinubu would eventually become his albatross.
“The government of President Tinubu has mastered the craft of weaponising institutions. At the end of the day, what he has succeeded in achieving in one hand is what will be his albatross on the other hand, because what he is doing is that he is aggregating Nigerian politicians.
“All he has done now is to cow the opposition figures and platforms so that at the end of the day, they will do his bidding. But, what he has forgotten is that these opposition figures, governors or whatsoever, are not the true channel through which the Nigerian people are going to express themselves.
“The ballot box is where the Nigerian people will express themselves. And what happened in 2023 will be a child’s play compared to the democratic revolution that will come in 2027 through the ballot,” he said
