The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a new State Caretaker Committee for the party in Anambra State with Chigozie Igwe as the chairman.

 

The composition of the Igwe-led Caretaker Committee by the National Working Committee (NWC) and its subsequent inauguration in Enugu by the South East Zonal Chairman of the party, Chief Alli Odefa, were commencement of actions geared towards returning the state to PDP.

 

Other members of the 21-member committee are the Secretary, Clem Ezika, Chukwudi Nweke, Ezinne Patricia Onyia, Onuigbo Ndubuisi, Ikechukwu Chukwudelu, Chukwudi Okoye, Chief Ezeobi Okpala, Okey Asolo, Jude Oguejiofor, Echezona Agba, Promise Okongwu, Dr. Obumneme Nnoli, Remignu Okeke, Ebere Onukwo, Williams Obiora, Ndu Ikokwu, Ugochukwu Adileje, Onyeka Okeke, Nze Nath Uforali and Dr. I.G. Ngini.

 

Addressing the committee members during the brief inauguration ceremony that took place at the PDP South East Zonal Secretariat, Enugu, the Zonal Chairman, Chief Odefa charged the Committee to uphold the manifestos and ethos guiding the PDP which according to him lies solely on internal democracy and practice of democratic tenets for the good of the people.

 

In his acceptance speech, Igwe, a reputable Engineer and grassroots politician, commended the NWC of the party led by Amb. Umar Damagun, whose action he said, conveyed a message of hope towards rejigging the fortunes of the party in Anambra state.

 

He also thanked the founding fathers of PDP and all stakeholders at various levels of the party’s structure including the Zonal leadership led by Odefa, whose immense contributions he said had sustained the progress of the party.

 

Igwe said, “This appointment is an operation to return Anambra to PDP. It is a call to duty which we must administer with due diligence, truth, equity and Justice. We know that the challenges are enormous but we are prepared to conquer with special support of our eminent elders and stakeholders whose sacrifices have enabled this initiative. We will not disappoint them but will carry everybody along to achieve the desired results.”

 

He maintained that “Anambra state remains a traditional stronghold of PDP waiting for activation of the people’s commitments through a leadership that is determined to re-ignite and re-new it’s people oriented social contract that will give a pride of place in governance to Ndi Anambra. That is one of our primary objectives.”

 

The NWC of PDP had, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), pursuant to Sections 29(2)(b) and 31(2)(e) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), approved composition of Anambra State Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the Anambra State Chapter of the Party for a period not exceeding 90 days (3 months).

 

In a letter by the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, the NWC urged all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of the Party in Anambra State to remain united and continue to work together for the progress of the Party.
