From Obinna Odogwu, Ekwulobia
Forty-five stalwarts of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) yesterday defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Akpu community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The defectors included a serving councillor in the ward, Iloanwuna Onuigbo and the former chairman of the council, who is also a member of the Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, Chief Alex Okoli.
Receiving the defectors, the local government chairman, John Onyeakpa thanked the new APGA faithful for “believing in the clear vision of our party,” noting that “If there are no decampees to APGA, it means that the party is not growing in Orumba South. As you can see, even a serving legislator and a former chairman of this local government, who are staunch members of the PDP decamped to APGA.”
Also speaking, the State Woman Leader of APGA, Lady Chinyere Ibenta, who underscored the role of women in politics, prayed the women not to relent in supporting the Willie Obiano administration. She pointed out that the present administration in the state has shown tremendous interest in issues affecting women in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Onuigbo said that they were attracted to APGA because of Obiano’s transformational strides in Anambra and pledged their absolute loyalty to the party.
