Team Nigeria track and field athletes will enjoy wide range of spectatorship at the Paris 2024 Olympics as organisers has identified football, athletics, beach volleyball, tennis and basketball as the top five best-selling tickets.
On Tuesday, Organisers revealed that over one million tickets have been purchased in the space of 48 hours, leaving 20 sports sold out for Paris 2024.
Tickets were on sale for what are being dubbed as the “most prestigious” sessions for the first time, including the 100 metres finals in athletics at the Stade de France, swimming finals at La Défense Arena and the basketball final at Arena Bercy.
Team Nigeria is primed to feature in the above-mentioned sports, which enjoy wide spectatorship during the Games, having won gold, silver and bronze in football and athletics in past Olympics.
Nigeria senior men’s basket team, D’Tigers on May1, 2023 were drawn with Uganda, Senegal and Mali in Group A of the 2024 FIBA Olympic pre-qualifying tournament.
Nigerian athletes have won a total of 27 medals at the Olympics, mostly in athletics and boxing.
The national football team won the gold medal in 1996. Nigeria also won two medals in athletics and wrestling at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Meanwhile, tickets for the Paris 2024 Paralympics are expected to go on sale later this year, with no draw in place and the 3.5 million tickets all on sale individually.
