The Oyo State government has started paying out ₦264 million to property owners hit by the construction of the Senator Rasheed Adewolu Circular Road.
The handover of cheques happened on Thursday at the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development’s conference room in Agodi, Ibadan.
Before this, the government checked and valued properties along the road to figure out compensation. Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon Akin-Funmilayo Williams, said Governor Seyi Makinde approved ₦264 million for the first group of eligible owners.
He stressed the state’s promise to fairly repay those affected, adding that the road will boost land and infrastructure value. Williams also said they worked with owners to double-check the list for openness and fairness.
He urged others with valid papers to visit the Ministry for their claims. “The Governor has approved the sum of ₦264 million as compensation for the first batch of affected claimants,” he repeated.
One recipient, Mr Salawu Abiola, thanked Governor Makinde for caring about citizens impacted by the project and for his strong leadership.
