A current NYSC youth corper stationed in Umuahia, Abia State, named OWUMS FRANCIS CHIMAOBIM stunned the entire community by starting a personal community service development project to provide widows, street children, and youth in Abia State with various lucrative skills and large sums of money to help the needy in the society start and finance profitable businesses using the skills they have learned.
Upon meeting with the inspiring youth corper, Mr Owums Francis Chimaobim who is an indigene of Imo State but carrying out his NYSC service year in Abia state said, he was touched by the hardship in the land and the high number of out of school children roaming and hustling on the street which he noticed when he came to serve in Abia State.
Moved with the zeal to change the narrative, he spent his first 7 months of NYSC Service coming up with this project, raising funds and getting needed sponsorship to be able to empower the lives of the needy in the Communities.
Intimating on the itinerary of the project, he opined that it would be a five-day Skill acquisition and empowerment project aimed at training 40 Widows, 40 Street Children and 20 Youth/Corpers with lucrative skills that they can start easily and make money from after gathering the knowledge.
“This Project will Start on the 3rd of September 2024 and end on the 7th of September 2024 and will be held in the NYSC OFFICE inside Umuahia North Local Government Secretariat, The State Capital.
“AFTER THE FIVE DAYS TRAINING, A MINIMUM OF 2 WIDOWS, 2 STREET CHILDREN and 2 YOUTH CORPERS WILL BE GIVEN N100,000 (ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND NAIRA) EACH TO ENABLE THEM START A HUSTLE WITH THE SKILLS THEY JUST LEARNT”, said Francis.
The public especially the residents of Umuahia have described the humanitarian act of Mr Francis Owums as rare which goes to show the values of the NYSC SCHEME and is deserving of Recognition by governments at all levels.
