The Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the former deputy governor of Nasarawa state, Silas Agara has reaffirmed his commitment to empowering the youth of Nasarawa State, emphasizing that the primary mission of the NDE is to create opportunities for young people to build sustainable livelihoods.
“Our job at the NDE is not merely to provide employment but to create opportunities for young people to make a decent living,” the DG stated during a courtesy visit by the Nasarawa State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Saturday.
The DG of NDE expressed his gratitude to the association for their visit and the unwavering support they have shown him over the years. He noted, “I am deeply touched by your kind words and support, especially during my recent bereavement. Your presence during that difficult time meant a lot to me and my family.”
Regarding the upcoming SWAN Week award night, the DG expressed regret that he might not be able to attend due to prior commitments, including a trip to Uyo to support the national football team.
“I may not be able to attend the award night in person, but I will be there in spirit. I hope you will understand, and I assure you that I will continue to support SWAN in Nasarawa State in every way I can,” he concluded.
Earlier, the Chairman of Sports Writers Association Nasarawa chapter Comrade Smah George highlighted the ongoing activities for the 2024 SWAN Week, which commenced last week Monday.
“We are currently in the crucial stages of our two-week event, which will culminate in an award night and dinner for sports writers in the state next Friday. It is important for us to keep you informed of our activities at the state level, as we consider you a pillar of sports development in Nasarawa,” he added.
The former Vice Chairman of SWAN, North Central Zone, Mr. Dan-musa Muhammed also praised the DG for his unwavering support to the association and the state at large.
“Your contributions have been instrumental in our achievements. You have supported us through thick and thin, and today we look forward to having you as one of the patrons of SWAN Nigeria,” he said.
The Sun reports that the SWAN Week award night is scheduled for Friday, September 6th, 2024, and will take place at KMK Event Center, Lafia.
