Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti has lauded lawmakers of Abia origin from the National and State House of Assemblies as well as Abians for their support for his administration.

While assuring them of better things to come in 2024, he implored Abians with investment outside to bring them home, adding that Abia is open to business.

Governor Otti stated these at the grand civic reception organized by the Abia State government in honour of Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, at Umuahia.

He described Kalu as a brother and friend of many years, adding, “What we have done today is what should be done. Rt Hon Ben Kalu deserves all the encomiums, all the celebration, and if we continue to celebrate him till the end of this year, we wouldn’t have done too much.”

He described Kalu as a legislator who has distinguished himself and identified the purpose for which he was elected, stressing that he has done a lot in improving security and welfare of his people.

Otti said the state government decided to honour Kalu despite political party differences to appreciate his laudable contributions and selfless service to the State.

The governor used the occasion to inform the people that the money required to implement the 2024 budget was already available.

Responding, Kalu said he was deeply humbled by the civic reception by Abia State Government.

He praised the governor for his commitment to the advancement of Abia State, adding that, “We have seen, under your leadership, the intentionality for restoring critical infrastructure, especially with roads and urban renewal in concurrence with a renewed focus on education and healthcare.”  He said quality governance transcends political affiliations.

Rt. Hon. Kalu was later conferred with the title of Enyi Abia by the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers.
