Governor Alex Otti has explained the reasons for the Abia State Government’s involvement in the Aba International Trade Fair, which began on November 28 at the Aba Mega Mall.

Speaking during the official opening of the trade fair, Otti said one of the primary reasons for the government’s involvement was to announce the return of Aba as a major industrial and commercial hub in the West African sub-region.

“Another key reason is that we believe Aba has immense potential that both large and small businesses can tap into for growth and expansion,” Otti stated. “This event aims to showcase to the world the hidden gem that could hold the key to their next big breakthrough, offering market size, a skilled workforce, and access to opportunities that drive long-term growth.”

The governor added that the state’s active participation in the trade fair highlighted Aba’s significant contribution to the country’s economic goals, such as economic diversification, job creation, and boosting national output.

He noted that significant efforts had been made to restore Aba’s former glory through investments in infrastructure, security, waste management, social reorientation, and stakeholder engagement.

Otti called on businesses that had previously left Aba to return, emphasising that the challenges that led to their departure had been substantially addressed.

The governor welcomed both local and foreign businesses participating in the trade fair and expressed gratitude for their involvement, assuring them of the state’s commitment to making their experience a success.

He also thanked the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA) for partnering with the government to elevate the trade fair into an international event.

Otti reassured participants that the state was safe and secure for business despite occasional minor disturbances.

Chairman of ACCIMA, Geoffrey C. Uzoagbara, commended Otti’s leadership, stating that Abia had never been in a better position since the governor took office. He said the joint international trade fair would further highlight Aba as an investment destination.

The Chairman of the Planning Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mr. Nwaka Inem, described the trade fair as a bold statement marking the return of Aba as a commercial and entrepreneurial hub in West Africa. He thanked the governor for his efforts in ensuring the fair’s success.
