Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has recruited 1,150 Amotekun Corps to aid security and promised to support them with adequate equipment.
In his speech at the passing-out parade of the corps at the NYSC orientation camp, Ede, on Friday, he disclosed that the amended law has provided opportunities to be a rewarding member of the security architecture.
He urged the newly trained corps to work in synergy with other security operatives to ensure success in securing the lives of the people of the state.
He said, “In line with our administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties, I assure the leadership and the rank and file of the service that our administration is focused on full execution of the upgrade agenda. We will provide you with the required tools to work.
“I am also glad to note that the service now has a sound legal framework. The amended law has removed loopholes in the previous enactment. Under the new legal structure, the service has a full range of opportunities to be a rewarding member of the security architecture.
“As part of legal reforms, the service is also to be considered as a beneficiary in the planned security trust fund. Once the trust fund takes off, Amotekun service will also be enabled to access logistic support, among others.
“As a security expert myself, I know your needs as an organisation, and I assure you that your requests for vehicles, bikes, and other operational equipment will be looked into immediately.
“Additionally, the leadership of the service must maintain internal and external synergy. Internally, the leadership must be united to pursue the agency mandate. Your management practices must be all-inclusive and goal-oriented.
“Externally, the service leadership must ensure close synergy in operational matters with other security agencies. Amotekun service must work jointly and closely with the police, the DSS, and other security agencies. This is a must as all agencies have the same goal of a crime-free Osun State,” Adeleke said.
The Board Chairman of the corps, AIG Wale Abass (Rtd), assured that the corps have been adequately equipped to combat emerging security threats effectively, urging the governor to support the corps with operational vehicles, motorcycles, firearms, pump-action rifles, communication gadgets, surveillance drones, body armour, and tactical gear for rapid response to security threats, especially in remote and high-risk areas.
