A Northern group, Arewa Think Tank has honoured President Bola Tinubu as he marked one year anniversary in office following his victory at the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during the event at the weekend in Kaduna, the Chief Convener, Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said President Tinubu has achieved alot in the last one year, noting that his fight against insecurity across the country is commendable.
According to Yakubu, the event with
the theme: “Our Diversity, Our Strength’ was organised to celebrate the first anniversary of President Tinubu in office having been sworn in and assumed political leadership as the democratically elected President of the country on May 29, 2023.
He said the objective of the event was aimed at strengthening and encouraging the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Tinubu which has several laudable brilliant layers linked to foreign investment drive, making education affordable for the poor, delivering good governance amidst debt burden, social and economic transformation, driving peace and religious harmony, as well as measures to combat rural banditry and insecurity across the country.
“The one-year stewardship of President Tinubu has recorded remarkable and impressive achievements in many aspects of governance considering the level of mismanagement and unfavorable security situation he inherited from the previous administration. As such, it behoves on all patriotic citizens to support him, especially ‘his cabinet ministers and appointees to achieve greater successes necessary to propel the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability in governance and development that will ensure peace, progress, and unity of the country.
Mr. President has prioritized the issue of security, and from the inception of his administration changes in the leadership and coordination of the security outfit and architecture were implemented to address security challenges in Nigeria.
“One of the additional reasons for organizing this lecture is that the Arewa Think Tank observes a trend of under-reportage of President Tinubu’s recorded successes and achievements within the one-year time frame even as the government is making commendable efforts to tackle the huge inherited challenges.
“On our part as a body, the Arewa Think Tank is suggesting to the federal, state, and local governments that what needs to be done to ameliorate these challenges and tackle insecurity in the country is that the three tiers of government should act together and make financial contributions and sets aside N20 million every month to provide for physiological needs like food and clothing and distribute to the needy on one hand and the other hand to provide financial empowerment to the people to make them contribute to social, economic and human development within their locality. If this can be done in the next three to six months it will go a long way to ameliorate this artificial food scarcity created by some very greedy politicians, middlemen, and businessmen.
“We are therefore calling on our patriotic leaders all over the country to speak up and douse the tension. They should hot allow us to fall into the traps of those who don’t wish this country well. We need to have a country before anybody can think of aspiring to become a leader.
“We are not just supporting Tinubu per se, but the truth is that he needs our support as the current leader of our nation for the country to survive. We strongly feel that it is the responsibility of patriotic leaders and elders of this country to speak out because if they keep quiet, and the country is set on fire by those who don’t wish us well, including their collaborators from outside the country, it will all come back to harm all of us.
“So, I urge them to speak out. These are issues that we can all sit around the table and resolve. If we put on our thinking caps and we are patriotic enough devoid of greed, sentiments, tribalism, religion, etc., we can solve our challenges. And it appears to us that the Tinubu administration is on the right path, all he needs is space and time to take Nigeria to greater heights.
“In the context of all that has been said, The Arewa Tank is persuaded to foresee the possibility of Tinubu being a recipient of the Nobel peace price at the end of his 8 years by sustaining and improving the current drive and determination of pulling Nigeria out of its current
challenges”. Yakubu said.
