- Hails Endorsement of New Practice Direction in Ondo Courts
From Bamigbola Gbolagunte, Akure
Abuja-based legal practitioner, Mr Tolu Babaleye, has called on the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, to prioritize merit and integrity in the ongoing selection of new judges for the state judiciary. He also commended the Chief Judge for a new practice direction that aligns territorial jurisdiction with the location of the crime, streamlining the process and reducing burden on parties involved.
Babaleye praised the Chief Judge for endorsing the new practice direction, which stipulates that criminal matters and causes shall be handled by the court located in the area where the crime was committed. This change eliminates the previous practice of bringing cases to court in a different location, causing administrative delays and financial burdens for those involved.
He specifically commended Alhaji Rasheed Olanrewaju Kazeem for initiating the lawsuit that led to this significant reform. Babaleye acknowledged Kazeem’s efforts, research, and financial investment in pursuing the case, leaving a lasting impact on Ondo State’s legal system. He also praised the judge who delivered the landmark judgment, recognizing their boldness, fairness, and fearlessness in upholding the law.
Babaleye urged the Chief Judge to continue prioritizing merit and integrity in the ongoing judge selection process. He emphasized the importance of selecting individuals with a clean record and a commitment to upholding the law, as a corruption-free judiciary is essential for a just and equitable society.
