The Ondo State chapter of the Labour Party has announced its resolve to take the state in the November 2023 governorship election.
A statement from the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifo on Friday, indicated that the party has set all motions on the ground to clinch victory.
According to the statement, the Olusola Ayodele committee, is charged with the responsibility of mobilising a high-powered national campaign team for the party to reenact the LP leadership in Ondo State, and is ready to deliver the state to the Labour Party.
The statement reads: “To lead the Ondo National campaign committee is the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and Abia State governor, Alex Oti. They are to be supported by all LP Senators, Reps members, state lawmakers, and other key leaders of the party in the country with formidable solidarity from key members of the Obedient Movement in the diaspora.”
While clarifying the rumor about the possibility of the party conducting a substitution primary for the governorship candidate of the party, he said that such would only happen, if the current governorship candidate of the party decides to withdraw from the race within the substitution window created by INEC and if the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party also finds governorship aspirant who has the required competence and capacity as a possible replacement to fly the governorship ticket of a mega party like the Labour Party.
Meanwhile, the party also has informed that some aggrieved frontline governorship aspirants, especially from the APC and PDP are already discussing the possibility of crossing to the Labour Party and has been informed that only the NWC of the party can sanction such discussion before the close of the substitution window of INEC.
