From Adanna Nnamani, Abuja

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),  Ayuba Wabba, has asked Federal Government to engage the services of those involved in illegal refining to work for the country.

He condemned the rising cost of petroleum products and alleged oil theft in the nation, arguing that they were all consequences of importation.

Wabba spoke at the Labour Party’s leadership retreat holding in Abuja.

“There is no reason for diesel to be sold at N850 to N900 per litre in Nigeria.  Despite the fact that Nigeria is a major oil producing country, yet she has failed to refine her own crude oil. If we have people that are refining illegally, we can fix our refineries and mobilise them to refine  for the country,” he said

The labour leader said youths of the country were not lazy saying everywhere around the world, people celebrate the ingenuity of Nigerian youths.

“Even the yahoo, yahoo, it is not a lazy man that can do it.”

President of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo restated the union’s resolve to support the party, saying Nigerians have suffered enough.

Osifo, who is also the president of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) said the masses of Nigerians have suffered too much.
