The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has asked the Federal Government to give posthumous recognitions to iconic constitutional lawyer and elder statesman, Prof. Ben Nwabueze as well as foremost dentist, Dr. Sylvanus Ebigwei.

Nwabueze, a former Minister of Education, was Secretary General of the apex Igbo organisation, the longest serving for that matter, having occupied the position for several years.

Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Okey Emuchay made the appeal at the National Secretariat of the body in Enugu, Wednesday, when he opened condolence registers for the two eminent Igbo sons who passed on recently.

Nwabueze died after an illness on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 94 while Ebigwei, a former Vice President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for Delta State during the administration of Chief Nnia Nwodo, died at 80 on November 3, 2023.

Emuchay noted that both men served Ndigbo and Nigeria meritoriously and deserved commensurate honours.

He disclosed that Ohanaeze would during next year’s Igbo Day celebrations slated for Owerri, Imo State, give the duo deserving awards in the Igbo Hall of Fame.

“At the Igbo Day, September 29, next year, these two great sons of Igbo Nation will also be honoured by Ohanaeze. And our prayer is that the Federal Government in their wisdom, at some point, would find it important to give them proper recognitions, posthumously, because of the roles they played in nation building,” Emuchay said.
