Worried by low education development in Yewaland in Ogun West senatorial district, an organization, Yewa People Development Council, will organize an education summit to address factors militating against education development in the region.

Addressing newsmen at the weekend, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos and the Chairman of the Governing-Council, Yewa People Development Council, Professor Rahmon Bello, said the summit tagged ‘Yewa Education Summit’, has been deliberately put together to chart a course of action and embark on robust concerted efforts towards improvement on the education situation in Yewaland.

Prof Bello, who disclosed that the Summit with the theme ‘Repositioning Education in Yewaland: Challenges and Prospects’, will hold between April 15 and 16, 2025, said that the event would aim to reshape the education outlook in Yewaland in order to be at par with two other senatorial districts and even beyond what is obtainable elsewhere.

He added that the Summit which will focus on topics such as roles of critical stakeholders in advancing education in Yewaland, funding and financing educational development in Yewaland, entrepreneurship and digital training pathways for youth development, framework for career advisory and mentorship for Yewa youth, will equal aim at stemming the tide of school drop outs in border communities.

He pointed out that the organizers of the education summit are aware of the state of inadequate teachers and infrastructure as well as the negative impact of the location of Yewaland being at the Nigerian border with Republic of Benin, emphasizing that the event will carry out a holistic situation analysis with aim of improving the precarious situation.

Prof Bello who noted further that education is a veritable instrument for effecting desirable change in the social, intellectual and economic outlook of the society, expressed optimism that “the outcome of the summit will empower Yewa people to partner with government and other development partners in providing access to more improved, more inclusive and more equitable education and lifelong opportunities for all in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 4”.

He, however, disclosed that the Summit slated to hold in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, wil declared open by Governor Dapo Abiodun, while the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle will serve as the Royal Father of the day and Chairman of the opening session.
