From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

A group, Yewa Awori Patriotic Movement (YAPMO), has dissociated itself from a declaration by some leaders and socio-political groups in the Ogun West Senatorial District, that no indigene of Yewa Awori would vie for the governorship position in 2023.

The group said that such a declaration that the senatorial district West was willing to wait until 2027 before taking a shot at the coveted position, was not only unfair but did not represent the feelings and the yearnings of the vast majority of the well-meaning people of Ogun State and particularly the people of Ogun West senatorial district.

YAPMO in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Sulaiman Atinsola, a copy made available to Daily Sun, on Thursday, in Abeokuta, bemoaned the position of the Ogun West leaders, describing it as “an attempt to misrepresent the reality on the ground to mislead the people into believing that their votes will not count in 2023 election”.

The statement said research conducted by the Movement revealed that the stand on the the-no-governorship-contest for Ogun West in 2023, emanated on the basis of political and economic
patronage.

It added that “the position did not in any form share the political viewpoint of the oppressed and disadvantaged classes in the state and therefore is regarded as a
benefitting minority opinion”.

“We, therefore, dissociate our movement and all her affiliate associations from such statements and any further messages which may be dispersed to the public of a similar nature. Ogun West has not in a long time conducted any political summit or referendum where such a conclusion can be reached.

“Yewa- Awori Patriotic Movement remains committed to transparent equity and justice which can only bring evenly distribution of resources and development in the conduct of all government activities, irrespective of Political and ideological differences. It is on this premise that we encourage our people to remain resolute in their choice of candidate in any political choice of theirs.

“We will continue with our consultations and make a pronouncement on necessary bloc vote in the interest of political and economic advancement of our towns and villages. Ascendancy to the coveted seat of Ogun State Governor has not gone around the three senatorial districts due to political imbalances and individual political negotiation. Therefore, the most honourable and sincere thing to do is to have a wider consultation that makes other districts to buy in and allow the circle of equanimity to complete its course rather than making statements like forcing hot water through the throat of people,” the statement concludes.
