The Ogun State government has disclosed that it planned to deliver no fewer than affordable 5,000 housing units as part of the scheme to bridge the housing gap in the state.
Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, who disclosed this at the 2025 approved budget highlights and breakdown media briefing organised by the Ministries of Budget and Planning and Information and Strategy in Abeokuta, yesterday, said his ministry would also embark on some legacy projects in the new year.
Giving a budget breakdown, Omoniyi, said N17 billion would be expended on provision of housing units by his ministry.
He explained that a sum of N7.5 billion will be spent on housing projects, while N4.5 billion and N4.9 billion have been earmarked for other projects by the Ministry of Housing and Housing Corporation, respectively.
The Commissioner further disclosed that his Ministry would carry out the construction of Judges Quarters to provide accommodation for judges in the State.
Speaking further, he said that the state government has commenced refund payments to 33 unsuccessful subscribers that indicated interest in its housing units across the State.
Omoniyi stated that the state government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, would continue to be responsible, responsive and accountable for its actions.
He explained that names of the unsuccessful subscribers had been collated for refund amounting to N92.6 million.
“This government is responsible, responsive and accountable for our actions. I can boldly say that of all the 33 unsuccessful subscribers to all our Schemes , we have collated their refund amounting to N92.6 million. It has been approved and bank cheques are ready for collection from the Ministry of Housing,” he stated.
The Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Dapo Okubadejo, who chaired the briefing, said Ogun was ready to take full advantage of expansion in Lagos to grow its economy.
He said the budget of the state grew from N330 billion in 2020 to N1.45 trillion in 2025, noting the astronomical growth within five years indicated the state has become one the best in the ease of doing business as well as facilitation of direct foreign investment.
The Finance Commissioner said Ogun has developed a robust economic ambition with a main goal to create jobs, provide food and reduce insecurity.
He submitted that the state has created industrial clusters in strategic locations and provide infrastructure such as power, water and others, to attract investors and make Ogun a cost-effective destination to do business.
