Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, located in Igbesa, Ado-Odo Ota, Ogun State, has responded to a recent publication, labeling it mischievous, incongruous, discriminatory, misinforming, and utterly baseless. The management of the trade zone, a joint partnership investment between the Ogun State government and Chinese investors, sought to set the record straight by providing key details about the establishment and addressing the false allegations.
According to the management, the zone’s establishment dates back to 2008 when a Certificate of Occupancy covering a land area of 2000.407 hectares was signed by the government of the former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniels. It is important to note that the mentioned land has been under government acquisition since 1977. Since its inception, the zone has witnessed the establishment of numerous foreign companies, contributing to economic growth and development.
In an effort to inform and educate the public, particularly the host communities, the Ogun State government has made several public notices through mediums such as radio jingles, newspaper caveat emptor announcements, and town hall meetings. These measures were taken to ensure transparency and keep the community well-informed about the development and activities within the trade zone.
The management expressed disappointment in the publishers for failing to carry out due investigative journalism and instead choosing to collude and propagate blatant lies, which misinformed the general public and had the potential to ignite social disorder. They specifically addressed the individual behind the publication, noting that they are a known land grabber who has previously caused social disruptions and is currently on the run from security operatives after an attack on Ogun State Bureau of Lands officials.
In light of these circumstances, the management of Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone demands an unreserved apology from the publishers through a publication on their platform and other relevant mediums. The zone seeks to rectify the misinformation and restore the public’s trust by addressing the issue with transparency and factual information.
The Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone continues to prioritize its commitment to economic development, cooperation with Chinese investors, and fostering positive relationships with the local communities.
