The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday presented a proposed N1.055trn budget for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

Infrastructure received the largest allocation, with N284.456bn, representing 27% of the total budget. The education sector followed with N177.835bn, while the health sector was allocated N134.583bn.

The governor described the financial document, christened the “Budget of Hope and Prosperity”, as a blueprint for sustainable growth and a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Ogun residents.

He stated that the proposal aims to address the challenges facing the state, promoting inclusive, diversified, and sustainable growth. Governor Abiodun emphasised that the budget is designed to stimulate economic development, reduce inequality, and enhance citizens’ well-being.

The 2025 budget prioritises infrastructure, healthcare, housing, security, education, youth empowerment, job creation, and agriculture. It includes policies to drive recovery and transformation during economic challenges.

“This budget strives to balance fiscal responsibility with improved public service delivery, ensuring resources are used effectively to maximise prosperity for all. It tackles immediate issues like unemployment and poverty while investing in long-term growth.

“It serves as a roadmap for economic and social progress. Its vision is to inspire hope, foster unity, and strengthen public trust in the government’s ability to manage resources responsibly and guide the state towards a more equitable and sustainable future,” Abiodun stated.

Breaking down the proposed expenditure, the governor disclosed that N453.56bn would go to recurrent expenditure, while N600.98bn would be for capital expenditure. Personnel costs will consume N120.14bn, with N37.49bn allocated for Consolidated Revenue Cost.

The Public Debt Charge is expected to take N76.07bn, while overhead costs will amount to N219.86bn.

Highlighting capital projects, the governor listed the renovation of General and State Hospitals, the procurement of laboratory and medical equipment across the state, and the construction of metro rail lines including the Redline Metro Rail Extension (Agbado-Kajola), the Blueline Metro Rail (Okokomaiko-Agbara/Lusada), and the Purpleline Metro Rail (Mowe-Iperu).

Earlier, Governor Abiodun inaugurated the newly renovated Ogun Assembly Complex, which was originally built 45 years ago.

In response, the Speaker of the Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, appreciated the governor for renovating the Assembly Complex. He revealed that the Assembly had considered 14 bills, passed nine, and adopted 32 motions as resolutions. Elemide assured that the appropriation bill would be given accelerated passage.
