The city of Agbor would be agog this weekend as it hosts Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and top brass of the nation’s armed forces at a reception for former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.
The ceremony is organised by the people of Ika Federal Constituency. Also expected at the event are the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and 11 monarchs from the federal constituency expected to give a touch of tradition to the homecoming of Irabor at the Public Field, Agbor.
Speaking ahead of the reception, Vice Chairman of the organising committee, Rear Admiral NP Agholor (retd) described General Irabor as a kinsman in whom the community is well pleased with his service to the country.
“He has distinguished himself in service and acquitted himself after an unblemished service to the nation. It is because of this and the honour he has brought to our land that the Ika people have decided to give honour to whom honour is due.”
Irabor was appointed Chief of Defence Staff in January 2021 and stepped down on June 19, 2023 and was formally pulled out of service by the top brass of the services on June 29, 2023.
