Members of the Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved a request by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the appointment of 20 Special Advisers.

The approval followed a letter of request from the governor which was read during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Dennis Emomotimi Guwor.

In the letter, Oborevwori said his request was in line with Section 196, Sub-Section 1 to 3 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

He explained that the Special Advisers are to assist in driving the administration’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, the House screened and confirmed the nominees for appointment into the Delta State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy as forwarded to it last week by the governor.

Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi moved the motions for the confirmation, after the screened by the committee of the whole chaired by the Speaker, Mr. Guworr.

The members include retired Justice Celestina Ogisi, as chairman, Prof. Loius Ojogwu, Alexander Neyin, Dr. Iris Jewo Ibi, Augustine Eseagwu, Festus Onyaeju, and Mrs Uju Rosaline Monye.

Oborevwori had in the letter conveying names of the nominees, said the appointment followed the need for reconstitution of the Advisory Council as a result of the expiration of the tenure of members.

He explained that the appointment was in exercise of powers conferred on him by Section 3, Sub-Section 1 and 2 of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy Law 2016.
