Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has selected 20 students of the institution for Alumni scholarship award.
This was disclosed on Tuesday, during a press conference by the Chairman of the Alumni, Lagos State branch, Dr. Lukumon Adeoti.
The conference, which held at the Afe Babalola Hall, kick-started series of events lined up to mark the 5th Professor Adetokumbo Babatunde Sofoluwe memorial lecture.
The lecture will be chaired by Managing Director, Mobil Oil Nigeria Limited, Mr. Tunji Oyebanji, with Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, as special guest of honour while the National President of the alumni, Dr. Sunny Kuku, will be father of the day.
In his address, Adeoti disclosed that highpoint of the three-day activities spanning two weeks would feature a lecture to be delivered by the Vice Chancellor, Sokoto State University, Prof. Nuhu Yaqub.
Describing the late professor as an embodiment of simplicity and an erudite scholar who demystified the position of the vice chancellor, Adeoti said the programmes were designed to sensitise the people on “Sofoluwe’s enviable contributions when he was alive and to encourage people to be of good deeds while alive.”
He revealed that the vice chancellor was a philatelist and added, it was against the backdrop that an art exhibition has been slated for the closing day.
Chairman of the organising committee, Prof. Oluwayemisi Obashoro-John, who described Shofoluwe as a man of honour, said 38 abstracts of the late UNILAG boss have been compiled for display at the exhibition, and noted that more interest were his first and last academic works.
