The Director of Northwest area office of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Kehinde Aremu, has charged corps members serving in Kebbi State to plan ahead of their exit from the scheme and get busy with skills acquisition.
Aremu stated this during his visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Dakingari Suru Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
While addressing the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II Corps Members deployed to serve in Zamfara and Kebbi states, he acknowledged the sacrifices of the NYSC officials, the Army, Man O War and other camp officials to ensure that every NYSC camping experience is successful.
His words: “Leaving your families, the pleasures and comfort of your bedrooms for three weeks, six times a year, is commendable. To you corps members, make plans, get your hands busy, key into skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme before you completed your service.
Aremu highlighted the importance of skills acquisition, which enables corps members to be self-reliant by acquiring skills.
“Our stakeholders are ready to empower you in starting your businesses. After getting the necessary training, present a bankable proposal to access loans from the scheme’s funding options like the Bank of Industry and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),” he advised.
He congratulated the corps members for making it to the orientation course despite the stress they went through in their various higher institutions of learning, especially the Nigerian graduates.
Aremu, who shared his life experiences, said he too had gone through an NYSC camp as a corps member, adding that he was lucky to meet his wife at the NYSC camp.
“See yourselves as leaders with excellent qualities; see yourselves as brothers and sisters. Be faithful and honest in your service. Be patriotic, have a healthy attitude to work and more importantly, make an impact wherever you find yourselves,” he said.
Aremu advised the corps members not to place their future in the hands of other people but instead, empower themselves and utilize every opportunity NYSC offers.
