No fewer than 1,313 corps members of Batch C Stream II have been sworn in to commence their three weeks orientation course at the permanent orientation camp, Dakingari Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
They were sworn in by the representative of the Chief Judge, Faruk Hassan Bunza, yesterday, which was also witnessed by the Commissioner for Youths, Nura Bala Fingila, who represented Governor Nasir Idris as well as Zamfara Coordinator, Alhassan Abdulsalam.
Addressing the corps members, the Kebbi State Coordinator, Agatha Okolo Banki, urged them to obey all the rules and regulations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as well as constituted authorities.
“My dear corps members, I urge you to uphold a high sense of discipline, tolerance and proper understanding of the essence of the orientation Course.”
The state coordinator, who commended Governor Idris for his support, said they were looking forward for more interventions and consideration.
Banki also commended their host, Lamido, Dakingari town, Jafaru Haliru, local government chairman and all the security agencies for their support and contributions towards the smooth orientation exercise in the camp.
In Edo State, the NYSC deployed 2,032 corps members.
The state coordinator of the scheme, Suleiman Ibrahim, who disclosed this at the swearing-in ceremony in Okada, Edo, said of the number, 1,050 were males and 982 females.
He said the corps members have adjusted to the camp life and have exhibited great sense of discipline, dedication and responsibility since their arrival on camp.
Ibrahim added that they have also demonstrated keen interest in all aspects of the orientation course and have responded satisfactorily to instructions, indicative of the fact that the objectives of the orientation course will be achieved.
While commending the Edo State government for its infrastructure development strides at the orientation camp, he said the scheme faces inadequate hostel accommodation for both male and female corps members and collaborating agencies.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Zubairu Dada Abubakar, urged the corps members to key into the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the scheme to tackle issues of unemployment in the country and thereby making themselves useful after the service year.
