From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali is presently at loggerheads with a car rental company, Klin Deal Resources over an alleged breach of contract after hiring its vehicle he earlier intended to travel with to his hometown for his father’s funeral on June 7 at Okwuzi, Rivers State.
An agent of the company, Franklin Opara claimed Nwabali had hired two Prado jeeps and a G-Wagon for three days through one of his aide, Chimaobi Okeke to convey them to Port Harcourt.
But the agent was said to have refused when he later find out that it was actually, Egbema his community he was heading to, sighting hostility of the area as his excuse.
Okeke said his refusal had led Nwabali demanding his refund but the agent of the transport company he noted said it could only refund for two days out of the three days the vehicles were booked.
But Nwabali has insisted that the company must refund in full for the three days the service was not rendered.
“We were being fair enough, he asked us to take him to Port Harcourt but on getting to his hotel in Owerri, he said we’re going to Egbema and that place is a hostile area so the driver refused, the vehicle has been with the police in Okwuzi in Rivers State ever since then, we offer to refund him N1.9million.
However, Nwabali’s aide, Okeke had given a different explanation, he said the agent reneged in their agreement of coming with two Prado vehicles and a G-Wagon.
Part of their agreement he said was also to come with two drivers for the Prados while the G-Wagon he said was agreed would be self driven by him and not a staff of the company for security reasons.
“We asked them to come with two Prado and one G-Wagon, the two Prados should come with drivers while the G-Wagon should not come with driver, that was what I discussed with the agent. I was the one that contacted him. The Prados came with drivers and the G-Wagon as well, which was not what we agreed.
I told them not to come with driver for the G-Wagon I would be the one to drive it.
“He told me that I have to pay for their security if I would be the one to drive the G-Wagon but they later came with a driver for the G-Wagon. So we told him since they breached the contract, they should return the money that was given to them for the G-Wagon; that was where the whole issue started. First he said they don’t do refunds, two days after we had to keep the Prados,” Okeke explained.
