The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has tasked nurses on the need to maintain high ethical standard as to promote good health among the citizenry.
NMCN Registrar/CEO, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan gave the task during the induction of the pioneer graduate nurses of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), Abia State.
Represented by a member of the Council, Eleanor Chinwe Nwaka, Alhassan encouraged the new nurses to be willing to learn from their colleagues already working in the clinical areas, accept corrections, improve and make adjustments positively where necessary to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
“Do you know where the mistake of health can lead somebody? It can lead to severe adverse effects or lead to mortuary. So let us be very careful while taking care of our patients.”
He urged them to come out with strategies that when implemented and evaluated should bring out necessary positive outcomes.
The founder of the University, Prof Greg Ibe acknowledged the guidance and support the institution received from NMCN which standards and regulations he said have ensured GUU programme meet the highest expectations.
He congratulated the 21 pioneer Nursing scholars for their trust, confidence and determination to pursue a career in the noble profession.

Celestina Njoku said the institution has made giant strides in graduating 21 registered nurses who have been inducted into the noble profession.
Represented by the deputy vice chancellor (Academics), Prof Regina Ogali, the VC urged the graduating scholars to be good ambassadors of the University.
Guest lecturer at the occasion, Prof Peace Iheanacho said the nursing profession has been recognized globally and called for excellence among its practitioners.
Advocating for leadership roles by nurses in the health sector, Prof Iheanacho said, “Since nursing is getting global attention, nurses should no longer be marginalized in the leadership structure in the health sector.”
Agaptus Nichole Chinasa emerged the best overall graduating student.
