From Scholastica Onyeka, Makurdi
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Benue State Chapter, has elected new executives to lead the chapel for the next three years.
During the election which was conducted at the chapel secretariat in Makurdi, Emmanuel Anstwem of the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN), as Chairman of the chapel to take over from Tor Vande Acka of the Daily Independent who chaired the chapel in the last three years.
Antswen polled 11 votes to win the position against p his closest rival Hembadoon Orsar of Leadership Newspapers who polled 9 votes.
Others officials including Vice Chairman, Onyeje Abutu-Joel, NAN, Secretary, Titus Atondu, News Direct, Assistant Secretary, Cephas Iorhemen, News Telegraph and Treasurer, Scholastica Onyeka Hir, Sun Newspaper, all emerged unopposed.
Our correspondent reports that the election was supervised by the Vice President of NUJ Zone D, Comrade Kris Atsaka who lauded the Credentials Committee led by Sunday Ogli of Nigerian Pilot, Uche Nnorom of Peoples Daily as Secretary and Dorathy Aninge of NAN as member, for the peaceful conduct of the election.
Atsaka, while commending the immediate past Chairman of the chapel for the progress in the chapel and unity among members advised the new executive to build on the developments and carry members along, enhance their welfare as he leads the chapel.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Emmamuel Anstwem, appreciated his rival, Orsar, for a keen contest and appealed to her to join hands with him to take the chapel to greater level.
Antswen promised to sustain the peace, brotherliness and progress in the chapel and appealed for cooperation from members to enable him succeed.
