NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML) has unveiled a new corporate identity in a strategic move to position itself as a global leader in maritime services.
Speaking at a recent press briefing themed Redefining Growth and Leadership: The New Face of NSML, Managing Director Abdulkadir Ahmed emphasised that the transformation accentuated the company’s commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and leadership in the maritime sector.
“NSML has evolved significantly from its inception 15 years ago. From an initial focus on mining, we have transitioned into a fully integrated maritime services provider, playing a key role in ensuring the efficient delivery of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) to terminals worldwide,” Ahmed stated.
He highlighted NSML’s extensive technical and terminal management services, which facilitate seamless energy transportation and enhance global trade. The company has also established the Maritime Centre for Excellence in Bonny, a first-of-its-kind facility in the region.
“This state-of-the-art centre offers advanced shipping operations simulation, providing real-time, immersive training experiences for seafarers, marine engineers, and industry professionals,” Ahmed noted, adding that the facility has already received multiple accreditations from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UKMCA). NSML is also on track to become Sub-Saharan Africa’s first fully accredited advanced maritime training institution.
Ahmed stressed that NSML’s investment in talent development is central to its vision, ensuring the maritime workforce remains highly skilled and globally competitive. He described the rebranding as a modernization effort that aligns with the company’s international ambitions.
“The new identity is designed to enhance our global presence, attract strategic partnerships, and reinforce Nigeria’s reputation as a trusted maritime stakeholder,” he said.
The company’s transformation strategy includes increased investment in technology, deeper collaborations with international partners, and a stronger commitment to sustainability and global best practices.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Sofia Horsefall, General Manager of External Relations, underscored NSML’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s maritime sector, particularly in shipping operations, talent development, and economic growth.
“NSML’s transformation is a testament to resilience, innovation, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. Our trained crew plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of LNG and NGLs to international markets. Skilled maritime professionals are the backbone of the shipping industry,” Horsefall stated.
She highlighted NSML’s leadership in addressing industry talent gaps by developing a pool of highly skilled seafarers, marine engineers, and maritime professionals. The establishment of the Maritime Centre for Excellence, equipped with cutting-edge bridge and engine simulators, has strengthened NSML’s position in accredited maritime training, technical research, and consultancy services.
“Our ongoing efforts to secure full UKMCA accreditation for the centre will further elevate Nigeria’s role as a global hub for maritime training and excellence,” she added.
NSML’s rebranding signals its readiness to compete on the world stage, foster international collaborations, and advance global shipping from Nigeria’s shores. The company has called on industry partners, regulatory bodies, the media, and stakeholders to support its new brand and vision for a smarter, safer, and more sustainable maritime industry.
