Governors under the aegis of Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) in Nigeria, met in Kaduna on Friday over unending insecurity in the region, and called on the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to the menace.
The governors, who acknowledged and appreciated efforts of the Federal Government in the fight against insecurity, said more efforts should be deployed to rid Northern region of terrorism and other challenges.
Gombe State governor and Chairman, Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), Inuwa Mohammed, said: “As governors of Northern States, while we are commending the Federal Government over the fight against insecurity, we believe that more needs to be done to bring an end to kidnapping, banditry, communal clashes and terrorism bedeviling our region.
“Security and development are connected and we must apply them collectively. Without security there will be no development because investors can only invest in an environment, where their resources are secured. Infrastructure, educational development, and agriculture can only flourish in the atmosphere of peace and security.
“Similarly our people can only go to farms and pursue other economic livelihood, and other social activities when their safety is guaranteed. Therefore, addressing insecurity, and other challenges is crucial to the overall development . In this regard, all the 19 Northern governors are united in our commitment to addressing those challenges.”
Mohammed also condoled with people of Tudun Biri community in Kaduna State, where military drone killed many residents. He led the governors to observe one-minute silence in honour of the deceased ones. The host governor, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, earlier in his welcome address, lamented the high rate of insecurity in the region. He made a case for concerted efforts by the governors to ensure even development of the region.”
The governors also announced a donation of N180 million to the victims of recent erroneous bombing of Tudun Biri community by the Army drone in Kaduna State, which killed several residents.
