The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has firmly denied recent online reports suggesting a scheme to unlawfully extend the tenure of Permanent Secretary representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Gabriel Aduda.
In a press statement released by Director of Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, the OHCSF described the allegations as unfounded and misleading. “The OHCSF categorically denies any plan to request the extension of the tenure of either Mr Aduda or any other Permanent Secretary,” the statement read.
The Office emphasised that decisions regarding the tenure and retirement of Permanent Secretaries strictly adhere to established Public Service Rules and require approval from the appropriate authority. According to the Public Service Rules, 2021, Rule 020909 (b), “a Permanent Secretary shall hold office for four years and be renewable for a further term of four years, subject to satisfactory performance, and no more.”
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, reiterated her commitment to transparency and the rule of law in public administration. “I remain resolute in upholding merit-based leadership and accountability across the Civil Service. Transparency and integrity are the cornerstones of my leadership, ensuring the public’s trust in the Civil Service,” she said.
The OHCSF urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary tension or undermine confidence in the Civil Service.
Olotu advised, “We encourage citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information to avoid being misled.”
