From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

Kano State Chairman of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Dungurawa, has assured the people that the government will conduct a free and fair election for local government areas in the state.

The chairman, who spoke with newsmen in Kano, said there would be a level playing field for all political parties in the elections.

“As a democratic party whose ideals are people-oriented, we will ensure a hitch-free local government election later this year,” he said.

He added that part of the democratic disposition of the NNPP-controlled administration in the state was to allow the incumbent local government chairmen serve out their tenure.

“When we inherited the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen from the previous administration, we allowed them to continue in office and gave them all their dues,” he said.

Dungurawa said the NNPP government extended the same gesture to officers in public service whom they inherited from the APC government.

He thanked the people for their prayers before, during and after the Supreme Court judgment that restored Abba Yusuf as the governor of the state.

He assured the NNPP administration would continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of state.
