The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has charged officers and men of the Nigerian Navy on the need to be fit at all times given their very delicate job while noting that sports remains a unifying factor in the country.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was speaking made the appeal at the Nigerian Navy 68th anniversary golf kitty held at the Dolphin Golf Club, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos where he was the special guest of honour at the event.

The Army Chief who was represented by the GOC 81 Division, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Usman noted that sports remain a unifying factor in Nigeria. “Sports as you can see brings everyone together, we interact freely and everyone is happy. The Chief of the Naval Staff is a sports lover right from his days in the Nigeria Military School and will continue to promote sports in the Navy.”

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla who was represented at the golf kitty by the FOC Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Mustapha Hassan on his part said sporting activities like the golf kitty, Sailing and Polo are among events to celebrate the Nigerian Navy 68th anniversary to bring people together to merry to make this special occasion.

The kitty which had 85 participants in attendance included retired and serving Naval officers and men sweating it out across 18 holes. Trophies were awarded for the longest driver (men and women), nearest to the pin, super veterans, Retirees, ladies, Navy ladies and Navy men as well as other categories where the golfers excelled.

Dolphin Golf Club Captain, Engr. Kronakegba Uti thanked the FOC for supporting the club as well asked requested the CNS to reinstitute the annual subvention it used to enjoy. The plea of the Club Captain was delivered by Captain Bayo Adekoya (Rtd).

An elated OSBD Olafisoye who emerged the overall winner of the kitty stated that he did not expect to win because one cannot predict in the game of golf. “The game is stressful and hard and as a player, you need serious concentration to perform better. I am happy to win on this same course that I have cardy several years back before joining the Nigerian Navy.”
