The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has launched the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), a strategic initiative aimed at reshaping the global perception of Nigeria.
The unveiling ceremony took place in Abuja on Tuesday, where prominent figures gathered to discuss the importance of enhancing the nation’s image.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stressed the need for Nigerians to redefine their identity. He argued that a strong national brand is essential for attracting talent, tourists, and investments, which are crucial for national development.
Idris urged citizens to engage in honest self-assessment to identify both strengths and weaknesses.
The Chairman of Channels TV echoed these sentiments, calling for ethical leadership among politicians. He stressed that reputation cannot be built on slogans alone; it requires genuine commitment from leaders to prioritize the needs of the people.
He challenged attendees to view their roles as custodians of a legacy that future generations would admire.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, highlighted the interconnected nature of global perceptions. He advocated for proactive reputation management through effective communication, urging the nation to share its narrative honestly while addressing its challenges.
Tuggar asserted that perception is closely tied to reality and that citizens must feel empowered to contribute positively.
President of NIPR, Ike Neliaku, articulated the necessity for a deliberate approach to building Nigeria’s identity. He described reputation as a vital asset that requires careful cultivation and management.
Neliaku acknowledged existing challenges but expressed optimism that with focused efforts, Nigeria could change its narrative on the world stage.
He explained that the NRMG will work towards promoting Nigeria’s core values and principles while developing strategies for sustainable reputation enhancement.
