Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force will soon start to wear body cameras to promote transparency and accountability, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has said.
Adejobi disclosed this during an appearance on Channels Television on Thursday.
The police spokesman maintained that the initiative would help foster public trust while ensuring accurate documentation of the activities of law enforcement agents.
He said that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has been engaging with the Federal Government over the matter.
According to Adejobi, the police is an accountable entity that takes feedback from the society seriously.
This, he said, informed the creation of the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and its codification in the Police Act 2020.
“To the issue of body cam, it’s a matter of fiscal budget and the IGP has taken this up with the government. I’m sure they are deliberating on this at the Ministry of Police Affairs.
“So very soon procurement will be done and I can say that police officers in Nigeria will be wearing body cams,” Adejobi said.
