Barely three weeks after a fuel tanker explosion that killed over 100 people and injured about 70 others, a gas plant has exploded in Sabon-Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NISEMA), confirming the incident in Minna on Sunday, said the explosion occurred at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday at Tasiu Gas Plant, beside Kalasma Filling Station, Sabon-Wuse, along the Kaduna Expressway.
A statement by the Director of NISEMA, Alhaji Baba Arah, said the explosion was caused by transloading gas from a gas tanker to a surface tank.
According to him, “Both the gas tanker and the gas plant were completely burnt down, including a car belonging to one Abubakar Yakubu that was parked beside the gas station.
“Also, a Ngeil grains processing factory behind the gas plant was completely razed by the inferno, destroying about 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans.”
He, however, disclosed that no loss of life has been reported while efforts are ongoing to clear the area as the fire has been brought under control.
