The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down 25 facilities in four states in the South East and South South parts of the country.
This, it said, was in continuation of an effort to enforce compliance with environmental regulations.
The facilities, cutting across different sectors, were shut down in Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers States for various environmental crimes, including refusal to conduct Environmental Impact Assessment before commencement of project, Environmental Audit, and lack of functional effluent treatment plant, among others.
In view of the ongoing, the Director General of NESREA, Prof. Innocent Barikor, admonishes operators to adhere to the provisions of environmental laws in their operations, saying that the Agency will continue to carry out such enforcement exercises in order to safeguard the environment and serve as a deterrent to facility operators.
A release from Amaka Ejiofor, Assistant Director Press and Public Relations, indicated that the facilities sealed include: Rugal Pharmaceutical, Emene Industrial Layout, Enugu; China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), Owo yard, Enugu; Planet Project Holy Ghost Central Park, Enugu; and Planet Project Gariki Central Project, Enugu.
Others are Reinforce Global Construction Company Ltd, Enugu-Abakaliki Fly-Over; Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, Okpara Avenue, Enugu; Tanit Medical Engineering Ltd, Enugu International Hospital Project; Mil House Energy Services Ltd, Awhum Village, Enugu State; Hardis and Dromedas, Umunya, Anambra State; Pinnatech Engi Asphalt Plant, Awkuzu, Anambra State.
Also in the list are Fadon Bonded Terminal, Onitsha–Enugu Express Way, Anambra State; Merit Bonded Terminal, Nawfia, Anambra State; Zenith Shipping Company, Nawfia, Anambra State; Donclimax Bonded Terminals, Amawbia, Anambra State; Ikenga Shopping Mall, Nkpor, Anambra State; Reliable Steel and Plastic Limited, Onitsha, Anambra State; and ILed Bonded Terminals, Oyi, Anambra State.
