The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) has delivered 112 Public Address System (PAS) to all the local government information units in the six states in northeast to facilitate information dissemination at the grassroots level.

NEDC Managing Director, Alhaji Muhammed Alkali while handing over parts of the system to Borno State government weekend in Maiduguri, said the intervention was done in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Alkali explained that majority of the information officers from 112 local government areas of the northeast had at a recent workshop organized for them bys a the commission, submitted that the public address system was critical to the performance of their duties disseminate timely information to the people.

“We have 112 local governments in the northeast. Most of the information officers submitted in the questionnaire they filled at the end of the workshop they would want Public Address System to enhance their job. The JICA in partnership with the NEDC provided the system,” he disclosed.

Borno Commissioner of information and internal security, Prof Usman Tar commended the commission for the support. He also requested for intervention to expand radio and communication facilities especially to remote communities and hard-to-reach areas in the state.
Earlier at a visit by the Governing Council of the Yobe State University, the NEDC boss said education and research for development were crucial to the commission’s mandate.

“We take education very seriously and that was why we established an endowment fund which has been sponsoring students in the northeast medicine, nursing, engineering,” he said.
