The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to host over 300 athletes in the inaugural edition of the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) Sports Week, aimed at promoting staff wellbeing, unity, and productivity through sports.
The week-long sporting event, which marks a historic first in the Authority’s 25-year history, will bring together participants from NCAA regional offices in Abuja, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, and the headquarters.
Competitions will span football, swimming, chess, table tennis, Ayo, and other indoor games.
Speaking ahead of the event scheduled for Monday, June 23, to Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Air Force Base Sports Complex, Airport Road, Abuja, the Director of Corporate Services, Dr (Mrs) Rebecca Enyiuche Aghadinazu, said the initiative was designed to foster fitness, teamwork, and institutional pride.
“The event will enhance team bonding, reduce tension, and improve overall staff morale and productivity,” she said.
Supported by the Director-General, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, the DGCA Sports Week is expected to become an annual tradition.
Organisers said the opening ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025.
Chairman of the NCAA Sports Club, Mr Razak Sowunmi, and Director of Public Affairs, Mr Michael Achimugu, also reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to staff wellbeing, noting that adequate security and medical arrangements have been put in place for the event.
