Preparations are in top gear for this year’s Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) annual presidential dinner and awards to celebrate business leadership and bilateral trade relationships excellence .
The event which is billed to take place on the 20th of November 2024, at the
Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 5pm, promises to be a memorable evening honoring exceptional accomplishments and commitment, according to the Director General of the chamber, Dr Ebere Njokwu.
At a recent press conference, Dr Njoku, who invited business leaders, gave hints of what will be seen at the dinner, saying “at the dinner you’ll see highlights of culture, entertainment, and a host of guests.
She said “the award that will be given will be awards that are highly credible to extremely credible individuals.”
She further emphasized that “the dinner was the first under this administration and there’ll be highlights of some of the programs that stand out under this administration within one and a half year.”
She noted that one of the achievements of this administration include the incorporation of the NGO for women and youths skill enhancement, stating that so far, they’ve screened 4000 people and have shortlisted about 300 and this second cohort will graduate by the end of November.
She said by the end of November they would have showcased what they’ve learned, displaying high creativity and intelligence in such short time which is very significant for the NGO.
Elaborating on the importance of the dinner, Mr Tajudeen Ahmed, chairman of the Presidential Dinner Committee said “we use the dinner as an opportunity to speak to our stakeholders,Nigeria and British presidencies, the members of the chamber and nonmembers to showcase what we’ve done within the year and what the chamber has for different stakeholders” stating that they’ve had instances whereby because of the way they’ve acted at their events, especially the presidential inauguration dinner, they got new members joining them…he said, still emphasizing that it is not a member-only event,it is an event that they put generally to the public.
Giving insight about the chamber the DG stated: “The chamber is about 47 years old and we’re here primarily to foster relationships between Nigeria and Britain. The idea of this chamber is to interchange our culture and our relationship and develop that such that it becomes a very seamless foundation between Nigeria and Britain making ourselves aware of the happenings in Britain and vis versa. And because the world is such a global space now it is important that we focus on that relationship more and more,” She said.
