Katsina State Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda has congratulated Senators Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin for emerging President and Deputy President of the Senate, respectively.

Akpabio and Jibrin were elected among others were elected principal officers of the 10th Senate, during its inauguration on Tuesday.

Radda, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, also felicitated with Rt Hon Tajuddeen Abbas and Hon Benjamin Kalu, who emerged as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively.

Radda lauded the transparent and peaceful manner the elections of the presiding officers were conducted.

According to Radda, the 10th Senate and House of Representatives are lucky to have seasoned lawmakers at the helm of their affairs.

He expressed confidence that the 10th NASS under the leadership of Akpabio and Abbas will raise the bar of legislative governance, while robustly checkmating any likely excesses of the Executive arm of government.

According to Radda, “The election of Senators Akpabio and Jibrin, together with Rt. Honourable Abbas and Kalu have ushered in a new dawn for the Nigerian federal parliament.

“And the National Assembly, indeed, will never be the same again under their stewardship.

“They are going to justify the confidence their colleagues have reposed in them, I have no doubt.”

The statement said that the Governor also joined the teeming supporters and associates of the three Katsina Senators and 15 House of Representatives members, who were also inaugurated at the National Assembly, on Tuesday, to rejoice with them.

“He urged them to put Katsina’s interest first in their activities and strive to remain, good ambassadors of the state, as they settle down to discharge their legislative duties,” Radda said.
