An All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant for the forthcoming Local Government election in Nasarawa State, Barrister Iliya Ibn Aliyu, has dragged the party before the State High Court.

Aliyu is seeking the party’s ticket for Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area for the forthcoming election slated for October 6.

Aliyu in a suit filed through his counsel, Mr Mwansat Michael Hirse, is seeking a declaration that the primary election that returns Hon Danlami Idris as the candidate for Nasarawa Eggon be nullified and of no effect.

Also joined in the suit apart from Danlami Idris and APC and other defendants are the state APC chairman John Mamman, and the state electoral body NASIEC.

Aliyu said that the primary election conducted by the party contravenes the constitution of the party which is one of the prerequisites for the emergence of candidates.

The aspirant is also seeking an injunction restraining APC and the state INEC who are the first and 1st and 4th respondents in the suit from recognising Danlami Idris as the candidate of the party in the forthcoming local election.

Aliyu is also seeking, ‘a declaration that the caretaker committee of the Local Government Area and wards are not legally and democratically elected executives of the 1ST defendant (APC) as such cannot elect a candidate for any election.’

He also wants the court to determine whether voting took place at the ward congress that empowered delegates to participate in the nomination of candidates for election.

‘Whether there was at any time voting at the ward congresses to elect the members of the electoral college to empowers them to participate at the nomination of a candidate for election into the Local Government Council in compliance with article 26(iv)(c/d).’

He urged the court to declare the primary election null and void.
