The National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has raised the alarm over alleged plan by some members of the association to organize parallel national congress to elect new executives.
The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Dr Ademola Ekundayo in a statement alleged that the plan was orchestrated by Prof Odey and Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo.
He said “the leadership of NAPTAN at the national level was taken aback to discover that some individuals are planning to organize a parallel congress which is against the constitution of our noble association.
“We reliably gathered that some elements within the association are planning to form a parallel group with the aim of electing new set of executives which is in contravention of the constitution of the association. We hereby condemn this move and declare that their mission is illegal and it’s dead on arrival as such move will not in anyway promote the association and we hereby stand against it.
“It’s unfortunate that what this set of people cannot get through the open door, they are planning to get it through the back door and this shall not see the light of the day. Their action is against the constitution of NAPTAN and we shall not keep our eyes opened to see this illegal act being perpetrated.
“Already, the parallel faction led by Prof Odey and Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo have concluded arrangements to organize an illegal congress to elect new national executives of the association.
“Whereas, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the association did not at any time organize such election, neither was there any plan for the current executives of the association led by our able and dynamic National President, Alhaji Kazeem Danjuma Haruna to vacate their offices without any recourse to due process and in proper consonance with the constitution of the association.
“From all indications and facts available to us at the national secretariat of NAPTAN, the organizers of the purported NEC meeting will make use of impostors to impersonate as real NEC members.
“I wish to reiterate that the tenure of the current executives of the association led by our indefatigable national president, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma is still intact and measures are being made to ensure smooth transition of power at the appropriate time in line with the constitution of the association and in conformity with due process. The national president has already consented to organizing a national Congress and this will be held in July this year, hence the need for everyone to remain patient and peaceful,” he added.
