Ugandan heavyweight boxing champion, Atta Soja, has expressed that his primary target is to raise his country’s flag across the world with titles hung on his shoulders. Eseentially, the boxer’s life tells the story of how much of obstacles one is prepared to turn into crucial lessons will determine how loud the victory will resound.
Atta Soja, whose real names are Akhiru Golooba, was born into a family in which his brothers were boxers, but his mother was not one of the fans of the sport. It took the intervention of his father to convince her to allow the athlete chase a career in professional boxing. It is hard to put blame on her doors–the sport still stands as one of the most brutal individual sport in the world.
Consequently, Atta Soja did not enjoy his amateur years because he often trained in secrecy, just as his brother would sneak him to boxing classes with the mother being unaware. When she got the wind, there was a threat to send him to a boarding school.
However, Atta Soja’s will was much stronger than the antics of his mother and the other external obstacles. He
recorded the biggest victory in his professional boxing career last April, when he sent Kakembo Elijah to the canvass after just three minutes and thirty-four seconds, in a heavyweight bout at Club Obligato in Kampala.
Atta Soja reckoned it was the biggest win of his career, having only defeated him on points in their amateur days. According to him, the push behind training for three hours in the evening time and running six miles in the morning is to be able to raise his nation’s flag as a boxing champion across the world.
“My biggest aim is to raise my country flag all over the world in a heavyweight division and boxing I want to be a great champion”, he said.
Many up-and-coming heavyweight boxers found inspiration in some of today’s generation of ringsters, but he got his in the old school class. He revealed that former king of pound-for-pound boxer, Mike Tyson, inspired his career.
“I got inspired by the greatest of all time, Mike Tyson. He used to fear nobody he had explosive power punches he gave me that beliefs that anyone can be defeated as long as you believe in yourself and work hard nd put God fast,” Atta Soja stated.
