In a surprise move, the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, on Thursday visited Mrs. Zemilasi Tafida and her children, who were recently evicted from their home and captured in a viral video that sparked outrage across the nation.
Zemilasi is the former wife of Mr. Mohammed Tafida, son of former Nigeria Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Senator Tafida.
The minister via her verified X handle, @BarrUjuKenndy, said the was to listen to Mrs. Tafida’s complaints firsthand and understand the circumstances surrounding the traumatic incident.
Following the meeting with the distressed family, the minister proceeded to the court that ordered the eviction to seek a clearer explanation for their decision.
She said The ministry is now working closely with the family to ensure their safety, security, and a return to normalcy.
“The mother and children are now safe, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is working closely to ensure peace, security, and normalcy for the family,” the minister stated in a post on her official social media accounts.
He post read thus: “Earlier today, I paid a surprise visit to Mrs. Tafida,the traumatized lady trending in a viral video with her children. I listened to her complaints to understand exactly what had transpired.
“Following the visit, we proceeded to the court responsible for evicting Mrs. Tafida and her children to obtain a clearer explanation for their eviction.
“The mother and children are now safe, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is working closely to ensure peace, security, and normalcy for the family.”
The viral video, showed Mrs. Tafida and her children after the forceful eviction from their home, had drawn widespread condemnation from Nigerians who demanded immediate government intervention to address the family’s plight.
Zemilasi in the video narrated how she was evicted from her home making her and her three children homeless. She stated that she was a victim of domestic violence and called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter.
