Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities has accused the Kano State government of neglecting the institution.
In a press statement, Sundaywhich was signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Suraj Suleiman and Mansur Said, the Union regretted that the neglect had impacted negatively on academic development of the institution
They stated that they had made several submissions to the State Government on their members’ demands, including a request for audience with the Governor, but has been unsuccessful.
They urged the Governor to reconstitute the University Governing Council while alerting him of the extent to which the absence of the University Governing Council could undermine the administration of the University.
They also demanded the immediate payment of the balances of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA)
and the Consequential Adjustment arrears.
The Union requested the immediate domestication of the newly approved Consolidated
Universities Academic Salary Structure II award by the Federal Government effective from 1st January
2023 and the payment of arrears and (ii) N35, 000 provisional wage award approved by the Federal Government.
They also urged the government to expedite action towards completion of on-going projects started by the state government, supplement Tetfund funding for academic staff training as well as consider the immediate stoppage of automatic deduction of 25 percent from the University Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
