Koyejo highlighted findings from a national survey conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization, which estimated that 20-30 per cent of Nigeria’s population suffers from mental health disorders. She explained that symptoms often start with subtle signs such as poor sleep, irritability, or appetite changes, and can escalate to severe conditions if left unaddressed.

She emphasized the importance of addressing workplace-related stress through organizational reforms such as improved communication, clear job roles, recognition of staff achievements, and management of workload.

Eimunjeze elaborated on the seven pillars of selfcare as promoted by the International Selfcare Foundation, which include health literacy, mental wellbeing, physical activity, healthy eating, risk avoidance, good hygiene, and responsible use of medical products and services. She urged participants to adopt these practices intentionally and consistently to enhance their quality of life.

“We are delighted to partner with NSIB to promote a culture of wellness and self-care within the organization,” said Eimunjeze, expressing satisfaction with the program’s impact.

Representing the Director General, NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., General Manager, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Maryam Shekoni, emphasized the bureau’s commitment to staff welfare.
