Smart, Savvy & Stylish, Secure-D-Future International Initiative (SDF) is a non-profit organization founded By Dr. Sa’adatu Adamu.

Dr. Sa’adatu Adamu is a mental health counsellor working with victims of human trafficking, rape, and substance and emotional abuse. She is the CEO of SDF support home and Maisa Legado Limited. Her endeavour to add value to humanity remains rekindled by her unending desire to improve the lives of striving youths whose vision is to be agents of positive change in society, she has won several awards while she serves on different boards.

Nigeria currently faces a global human rights emergency in mental health. Underpinned by poor societal attitudes towards mental illness and inadequate resources, facilities, and mental health staff, figures suggest that approximately 80% of individuals with serious mental health needs in Nigeria cannot access care. SDF has taken the bold step to nip this menace in the bud as they unveil a new facility known as the SDF Support Center located in Lugbe in the F.C.T. The center cares for those struggling with mental health issues, and offers ‘on the spot’ counselling is given to those in need.

when asked What inspired the project, She said: “it’s first-hand experience and to help people in the little way I can to stay sane regardless.” A lot is happening in different homes; people are daily falling into abject poverty and depression. People are tired and contemplating suicide, so I decided to contribute my quota and leave the rest for God. she said.

Dr. Sa’adatu also believes that for society to align with needed moral values, rural women will need material and immaterial enablers such as grants, skills, economic empowerment, medical care, and education to help instil needed values in child upbringing. She currently heads the Doctoz medical care Project with over 400 women enrolled under FCT primary health care support.

She has vast Knowledge and expertise in the area of mental health, Counseling, Gender Based Violence along side human trafficking. She is the Author of the book “BREAK D SILENCE“, a mental health advocacy material for secondary schools which has been adopted by the secondary education board. She has written publications internationally and locally, on counselling and mental health — one of which is published in the International Journal of Research and Scientific Innovation. She is adept at research on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and has facilitated a GBV project on awareness campaign material for primary and secondary students in urban and rural schools initiated by Spotlight Initiative and sponsored by United Nations and European Union through UNESCO. Since 2018, Advocacy and Counseling have become her focus, through school campaigns in partnership with the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) developing educational materials for victims of rape, gender violence, mental illness, and mental disorders.

She pioneered a mental health mentorship programme for teenagers, the SDF Teenage Mentorship Programme, to address the growing need for intervention in the mental health of teenagers through mentorship.

She has attended and organized international conferences, workshops, and seminars on human trafficking and mental health. She has a unique combination of high-tech training and expertise in counselling skills, project development, strategic planning consulting, and project research
