It’s a new dawn for the Rotary Club of Onitsha Royal following the successful installation of Rotarian Flora Chinyere Mbaeli as its new President, the 4th to pilot the affairs of the Club.
Rotary Club of Onitsha Royal, the youngest Rotary Chapter in Onitsha was created four years ago and has been waxing stronger by the day even as it is on record that Rotary Club has been in existence for more than 50 years in the commercial city of Onitsha.
Daily Sun learnt that the Club has given wheelchairs to two physically-challenged people, just as basic amenities were given to pregnant women and breast feeding mothers in some maternity and at the Basic Health Centre, Court Road Onitsha, as part of its resolve towards achieving the projected tasks for the service year.
Speaking after her installation, Mbaeli promised to serve humanity during her tenure. She said she would focus her attention towards the indigents and less privileged in society.
Mbaeli, a business development consultant, expressed gratitude to God for giving her the opportunity to serve and promised to work in tandem with the four -way test ideology of the club.
She disclosed that no fewer than 200 indigent school children will be clothed, provided with school bags and sandals, while over 10 communities in Onitsha North and South will be provided with water boreholes, just as over 500 people who cannot afford the cost of hospital hepatitis test, will receive it free of charge from the club in 2022-23 service year.
She said: “I will not fail all those that reposed their confidence in me; my mission in this rotary year is to drive the club to enviable heights. My year will be fun filled as I intend to serve humanity, focussing on indigent and less privileged in our focal area.”
Earlier, the former President of the club, Rtn Nkiru Okeke, while handing over the insignia of leadership of the club to Mbaeli, charged her to advance the goals of the club beyond expectations.
She said: “The journey so far under my watch has been successful. We were able to carry out a few projects that fetched Onitsha Royal a presidential citation and district award. I want to also use this opportunity to wish the new president a successful tenure”.
Receiving an award for his selfless service to humanity at the event, Rtn John Bosco Onunkwo said he was elated with the impact and progress of the club in its area of jurisdiction.
The event which was a combination of an award ceremony and investiture of the new president also featured induction of seven new members.
There were also Hepatitis awareness and medical check-up exercise during the ceremony.
Among the awardees were Hon Chiedu Obidigwe (MFR), representing Anambra East/West Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Tony Collins Nwabuwanne, Commissioner for local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Anambra state, Ven. Ogbonnaya Ibe Enwo, Rector Federal Polytechnic Uwana, Afikpo, Mrs. Ifeoma Nnatu, Remmy Nnakaife, Lady Anderlin Chukwudebelu and Lady Oby Ezenwankwo JP, among others.
